Our workshop submission process for 2020 has closed. We received dozens of incredible proposals, and we are excited to bring you another outstanding workshop lineup in Newport Beach!

The NSA understands that stuttering is as individual as each person who stutters, and we want to include all perspectives.  We invite everyone to come to the table, join the discussion, and share their voices and views.

We have worked hard to put together a lineup of fresh, innovative workshop topics, and we are pleased to release our Day at a Glance schedule of workshops!  Take a look at the calendar to plan your days and get a taste of what’s to come in Ft. Lauderdale.  Please note that this is a preliminary schedule, and information is subject to change.  A final, printed copy of the Day at a Glance, and well as your detailed event program, will be in your packet at check-in.

Are you a person who stutters? A friend, family member, or colleague of a PWS? An SLP? Have you ever thought that your lived experiences and insights with stuttering could provide encouragement, inspiration, and hope to others on their stuttering journey? If so, the National Stuttering Association would like to invite YOU to submit your workshop proposal for our 2023 Annual Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Our goal every year is to offer thoughtful topics for adults, teens, kids, and parents including acceptance, self-advocacy, parenting kids who stutter, covert stuttering, stuttering in the workplace, and educating the educators.  We are looking for creative, fresh proposals that touch every part of our community and on our shared experiences. This is your chance to develop and execute the workshops you’ve always wanted to see.  Whether they are interactive, panel discussions or informative, we want to see your workshop ideas! The deadline to submit your proposal is 5PMET, March 31st.

The NSA does not endorse any specific stuttering treatment, but instead presents a multitude of approaches and a variety of opportunities to enhance self-confidence and communication skills in a safe setting. It is our hope that attendees will leave the conference with new ideas that they can put to immediate use in their daily life and share with their communities.

Keynote Speakers

Sharon Steed

STUTTERING ON STAGE: Redefining Courage to Face your Fears

None of us walk through life without fear, doubt, insecurity, or shame. We all have something that’s a soft spot; and that thing gives us pause and makes us wonder if we’re good enough. Sometimes, we face our fears with confidence. But other times the courage we need escapes us, and we find ourselves back in that circle of fear, doubt, insecurity, and shame. So how do we cultivate that courage in the big and small moments of our daily lives? How do we speak with authority when we feel so small? And how do we stutter with confidence when we’re paralyzed with doubt?

In this keynote, Sharon Steed will share the lessons she’s learned from her life as a full-time public speaker who is also a stutterer. She’ll take you through her journey of struggling with communication through her childhood; avoiding communication at all costs in her early career; and how stuttering on stages across the world gave her genuine confidence the fluency never could.
